Christmas White Elephant!!

We play the white elephant game on Christmas day with our family. It is a lot of fun. Usually, the tackier the gift, the better. Looks like Eric got the best gift this year. This one is a little PG-13 so big people might want to preview first before sharing with the tots!!

Cannon Beach Oregon

After Thanksgiving (see post below) we all headed to the ocean to Cannon Beach for the weekend. We stayed at a real cute place the Cannon Beach Inn. The weather was great most days and while it was real cold it was still sunny and clear. We had a blast walking on the beach with Winston. He loved running up and down the beach chasing his ball and looking for clam shells. Once he got a shell in his mouth he would not give it up!!!

Great scenery!! You cant get much better!

Yep, your not getting this shell back, sorry!!!

It may not be warm and tropical, but it's not half bad!!!

Alex's parents flew in for their first ever Thanksgiving this year. We were so excited to share this American holiday with them. We all drove down to Portland to spend the holiday with Joel, Tonya Owen and Charlie and my mom who flew in from LA for the weekend. Joel and Tonya made a fabulous meal and yummy desserts. We had two turkeys cooked two ways, one was roasted traditionally and the other was smoked on Joel's wood chip BBQ...the Traeger!!! Then we had both traditional pumpkin pie and spice cake with cream cheese frosting and coffee toffee bits!!! Ahhh I wish I had saved a piece. So after stuffing ourselves we took part in a Peterson family tradition of decorating a gingerbread house for Christmas. This year we decided to make a contest of it and have the Peterson family decorate one and the Davis family decorate another. We could not find an impartial judge so we thought we would let YOU decided the winner. Take a look at the photos and then on our blog quiz you can vote for your favorite house!!! The winning team gets to eat both houses!!! hahahahahaha!!!

The Peterson team working hard...licking their fingers!!!

The Davis team working very seriously!!

Alex and I were lucky enough to spend a long long weekend in Oahu at our friends Kimi and Joshua's house. We arrive on Saturday afternoon and picked up our cheap-o rental car which turned out to be an orange jeep. After a relaxing afternoon we turned in early so we could get up super early on Sunday to do a dolphin excursion. We had to drive to the west coast of the island in Wianae to catch the boat. It cruised along the west coast of the island up to the north shore looking for the dolphins coming back from feeding at night. We were lucky enough to sight a pod of about 8 and got to get out of the boat and snorkel with them. They came about 15-20 feet from us and put on a pretty good spinner show. It was a lot of fun, we also got to snorkel in a reef and see fish and honu (turtle).

Don't we look so good after a snorkel?
After our snorkel trip we drove up to the north shore to eat some ono grub at Kua Aina and then sit on the beach at Waimea. What a gorgeous day!!
You can jump off the rock at Waimea!! Can you see Alex and I up on the rock? Well maybe we didn't go up there, it was just too crowded, and high. I actually jumped off once when I lived here so I don't need to experience it again!!
The next day I took Alex to one of the best beaches in the world (I am not just saying that, it has made the list) Lani Kai on the east coast of Oahu. It was fabulous, a perfect day and very few people.

The next day we started out with Kimi and her little Miranda hiking up to Makapu'u light house. It has great views and is a nice little hike. Alex did good job helpng to push Miranda up in her stroller, it is paved but still a steep hike. After our hike they headed home for nap time and we finished the day at the beach. You see the pattern, beach every day!!!

Our last evening we went down to Waikiki and took a sunset catamaran cruise and then had dinner at Duke's. What a great finish to a wonderful relaxing get away. It was nice to spend time with Kimi and Joshua. Kimi was on the Africa safari with me so she and Alex know each other from way back. It was also fun to show Alex some of my favorite places when I lived here because our honeymoon was rained out when we were here last. Thanks again Kimi and Josh and Miranda for letting us come stay. Next summer we will have you over here to kayak the San Juan Islands!!

Kristen and Sara Last Hurrah!!!

So my girlfriend Kristen came out for a visit from Madison, Wisconsin for a long weekend. She is 6 months pregnant (but doesn't look it at all) and so we wanted to have a girls weekend last hurrah before she enters motherhood. It's not like it is a jail sentence or something, she got 18 years to life....... She flew in Friday night and then Saturday morning after breakfast we drove up to Vancouver for three days. It was great fall weather with clear blue skies. She had never been to Vancouver so that was fun. We stayed right downtown on Robson street and got a great view from our room on the 25th floor!

We walked around and looked at the shops and then curled up for a movie in our room. On Sunday we walked to Stanley Park and enjoyed the leaves and went to the Aquarium. It is such a great aquarium and has beluga whales which were a highlight. We also got a good kick out of the sea lions. They sure are chatty. Bet you couldn't guess it was a whole bunch of females!!

After the aquarium we worked up a good hunger and went for lunch, ahhh fish and chips hit the spot. Poor fish. After all the fun we relaxed and then went for a drive around.
Monday was a big hit. We hit the spa for massages and facials before making the drive home to Seattle. I am sure Alex missed us a bunch.

On Tuesday I took Kristen with my friend Hillary to our favorite cupcake spot, Trophy, yummy for baby Pofahl and then sat at Starbucks waiting for Dave Mathews to stroll in.

He lives in the neighborhood. In the afternoon we took the bus downtown and hit the Pikes Market, then we dropped in on Alex at work. After work he met us for dinner and then we went to the play To Kill A Mockingbird. It was really good and well done. Then it was home on the drunks and crazies bus (it gets a bit interesting on our bus route at night) and off to bed. Kristen flew home today. We had such a great time and baby Pofahl is due January 4th so our next cupcake date will have to be in Madison, I guess they better open a cupcake shop!!! Thanks for coming all this way Kristen, it was so much fun!!!

Apple Picking

Which way to the Apples guys???
This one looks good, but does it taste good?

Charlie gets a lift to reach the good ones.

Owen doesn't need a lift, he figured out a way on his own.

What are we going to do with this many apples?
How do we know they taste good? Just ask Owen & Charlie!

Lightening Timberwolves!!!!

We went down to Portland for the weekend to see Joel, Tonya, Owen and Charlie. We got to catch Owen lead his soccer team (the Lightening Timberwolves) to victory with his 2 goals!!!

Joel is assistant coach so he has to make sure the big O knows what the game plan is (or at least which goal they are trying to kick the ball in)

Owen winds up to take possession.

Making the high five rounds after his goal. He is not so shy these days you see!
Little sis Charlie watches from the sidelines. She keeps Winston entertained with her cookie covered hands.

The lightening T-wolves wish the other team good game.....

Ahhhh the best part, the sugary treats!! Go ahead, you deserve it O!!!

Dave Mathews Concert

This holiday weekend (besides working on the house and building a shed) we went to the Gorge in George, WA to see Dave Mathews Band in concert. It is about a 3 hour drive east of Seattle and is in the middle of nowhere. The area is desert with a big gorge that they have built and amphitheater into. They had a concert Fri, Sat, and Sun night and lots of fans went for all three. You can camp in in a field next to the venue since it is so far away. We went for Sundays concert along with a guy from Alex's work, Paul, and his girlfriend Rebecca. It was a lot of fun and the weather was perfect. We didn't get much sleep thanks to the frat crowd shouting "we're going streaking" at about 4 am. I guess we are just not the party animals we once were. It was still a great venue and fun to camp and get some sun.

Robbins Bridal Shower!!!

I flew down to LA two weekends ago to help host a bridal shower for my friend Robbin. It was a great time, all her friends gathered to get her ready for her honeymoon in Maui. Lets just say I will have to do some editing on the photos so if Jason check this out he wont get any sneak peaks!! It was a tropical theme and the lovely LA weather helped out with 102 in the shade so the party moved inside for gifts and dessert. Robbin had a great time and got lots of fun things. Thanks to everyone who helped make this a special day for her. Even her mom and mine seemed to have a good time although they may not have enjoyed the gifts as much as we all did!!!

Remodel Update

So the remodel continues, not without trouble but I will not go into that right now. So they finished gutting the whole place and took it down to the studs on the walls and ceiling. Poor guy who had to do all that inhaled a lot of plaster the first day before returning with goggles and a mask. Then the electrician came in and wired it up!! I have never seen so many outlets, maybe because we were surviving with one, now we have one every two feet!! Once electric was in, the sheet rockers came and now we have walls again. Also in this process we tore down a half wall to the stairs that leads to the basement which is great, opens it up a bit. Now, for the troublesome part, they finished the walls with a textured finish, not what we wanted, sooooo Thursday they have to come and sand the walls smooth again. Oh well, if that is the worst that happens we will be lucky. Here are some photos.

Silly Business!!!

Just a few whacky shots I forgot to add from Leavenworth. We found this really funny hat shop!!! I think we should have bought some.
