Christmas 2012

I guess we must have made the "nice" list again this year because when we woke up (at 6:30AM) we found Santa had come! We tried to convince the girls to lay in bed for a while but that was not happening. We attacked our stockings first.
The table was all set for breakfast and Santa had only left a few crumbs from the cookies we left. The reindeer enjoyed the carrot as well.
Look at all the presents that filled the tree!
As you can see, it was still dark out and some people were barely awake even though they insisted on getting up!
Santa knew exactly what we wanted. Lily got her dream lite pillow pet penguin.
Gemma got a purple dress that she promptly insisted upon wearing.
After our stockings and Santa gifts we made everyone take a break for breakfast. The hot chocolate is really what lured them to the table.
Complete with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Finally the sun was beginning to peak out and the photos were looking a bit better.
It is not Christmas without crackers. Grandma Nini and Rach made home made ones for us. We got our crowns, joke, an ornament, and even a dollar!!!
Now back to the real business at hand. All those presents!! As you can see in the background, we had Granny and Grampy England on the TV doing skype so they could spend Christmas with us.
Legos were a huge hit this year. I have really enjoyed all the tiny pieces in my carpet ever since.
While we were on skype the girls got to see their present from Granny and Grampy. It was outside in the backyard.
A trampoline!!! Lily wasted no time getting right in and testing it out. We managed to keep it a secret from the girls and put it on the far end of the backyard on Xmas eve.
Winsty was not to be left out of the festivities. He got a new light up ball and he is in love. He hid out under the tree with it in case we tried to take it back.
You can't open all the gifts and not play with them all straight away.
Lily made us a lovely nativity at school as our present. She was so proud of herself. She almost kept it a secret too. She just told us all the things she was making but not that it was a nativity.
It is a puppet is it a blanket? It's a cuddleuppet!!
Just to prove I was there on Christmas too! Between Alex and I, we got four cook books! Better get started in the kitchen!
Gemma got a new Thomas set so we had to get out every Thomas we own and link them all up. There was not one square inch of floor to spare.
It was time to move the trampoline over and get some jumping time in.

We all gave it a try, pretty fun!
We did eventually get dressed and out of the house. We went to Goppy's for Christmas dinner with the whole Peterson family. It was so much fun and the girls were on super overload! We again, didn't manage to take on photo. Between eating, catching up, and playing the white elephant game there wasn't any time. Just trust us, we had a great time. The next few days were spent busy doing more of this. Dog pile with Grandpa Lee on the trampoline!!!
We even got some cute dresses from England Aunt Pam and Uncle Colin!
The week after Christmas has flown buy and we barely left the house. We have just been playing and jumping. What more do you need?

Christmas Eve 2012

Christmas Eve day we hung around the house doing last minute things for the big day. The girls were beside themselves with anticipation. Alex was doing some last minute assembly for Christmas morning so while Gemma napped I had to get Lily out of the house for a while. I decided to take us for a girls treat. Lily's first pedicure.
She was in heaven. She loved every minute and can't stop talking about it. She got sparkly red toes with snow flakes on the big toes. She has showed everyone her toes since. I think this is going to become a tradition from now on as well.
They wanted to get their dresses on first thing in the morning. We managed to hold them off until after Gemma's nap.
Here we are, all ready to go to church, let's get the show on the road already.
Gemma doing a shout out to Jesus. He is the reason for the season!
We had our "annual" Christmas eve cocktail party after church. We decided it is our favorite party of the year. Everyone brings something to share and we make a fancy cocktail. This year it was jingle juice. We used up an entire bottle of Captain Morgan, half a bottle of Grand Marnier, a fair bit of peach schnaaps and a ton of fresh squeezed juices. It was delightful!! I think it is going to have to make an appearance next year.
You will have to trust me that we all had fun at the party because this is the only photo we took!

Christmas Eve Eve Eve

Instead of stuffing Christmas into one or even two days we decided to spread it out a little and celebrate at Goppy's house before Christmas. This way everyone could take their time, enjoy opening presents from Grandma and Grandpa Lee early. It was quite the loot!
We started with stockings which were full of fun goodies. We could have enjoyed just those for hours.
Complete with a abominable snow man lollipop!
Once Ben was full of milk like a jolly ol elf we took some pictures. The theme must have been stripes!
Impossible to get all three looking, smiling, or even slightly normal looking.
Let's get to those gifts! Lily was happy to help Benji open his too. We had to play with some of his toys as well. It was a quality control measure to make sure they are safe for him.
 Tag team openeing too.
Uncle E did some gymnastics and almost launched Gemma out of the room. Rach was spotter and caught her.
Then we opened up all the toys and played with everything! We had a close call with some batteries but grandpa Lee came through. Even Carol had a great time and got quite the haul!
I can't even imagine we have more presents to open. Let's hope Santa doesn't bring too much this year!

Christmas Angel

I am sorry but there in NOTHING cuter in the world than a preschool Christmas program. That and it makes me realize (again) I could never be a preschool teacher. This was Lily's first appearance in a program and she did fantastic.
When they first marched in she was in the farthest possible spot from where we sat. She didn't see us and we could barely see her. They sang several songs including the "superman" song. Not very Christmas-y but a kid fave.
Luckily, after the two year old class did a fabulous rendition of jingle bells, the fours class came back in "costume." Our little Angel was right in front of us. She wasn't sad, just caught a funny expression.
Oh and the teachers head.

We didn't get the best photos because we were too busy smiling and watching. The grandpa in front of us was a photographer with a fancy camera so hopefully he will email us some good shots.
Lily was too busy watching herself on the big screen above as well.
After the big show they were treated to a piece of Jesus' birthday cake.
Gemma decided to partake in some too. Frosting only of course.
Here is a little video of one of the songs. They all did a great job and it was so sweet to watch. Next year Lily will be in public kindergarten so hopefully we will be watching Gemma in the preschool show. Good luck with that one!

Santa Success

I was pretty certain we were not going to get Gemma on Santa's lap this year, and certainly not smiling. She has an aversion to new people, strangers, and generally everyone not in her immediate family/friends life.

I guess we built up the visit to Santa enough and Lily talks about him every waking minute so he must be family by now. She was not interested in looking at him. At all. She did however sit on his lap, accept candy, and smile. Win!
He was truly awesome and spent about 10 minutes talking to the girls (Lily), opened her letter, read her list and discussed her requests with her. Her list includes: A penguin pillow pet dream lite, a TV for her room, cable TV, beads for crafting, dresses and dolls for Gemma, and money. Yikes! That is a steep order. Gemma's wish list, which she would not discuss with Santa, includes a purple dress and bandaids.

We had quite the Santa party as Rach and Benji came to see Santa as well, and Goppy and Daddy came to watch.
We all had lunch and special treats after!

The dresses are already in the wash to get the chocolate out for Christmas eve!

Meet Rosie

Meet the newest member of our holiday family! Rosie. She actually came to our home for Christmas last year but she had to return to the North Pole to help Santa all year. She sure gets into a lot of mischief each night after she returns from seeing Santa and reporting on whether everyone was naughty or nice.

\

She likes to climb and hide and eat candy.

Every morning she is in a new place and we have to find her.

So far we have been pretty nice but sometimes when some one is particularly naughty we have to remind them that Rosie can hear everything.
