Hip to the Hop

Gemma and a few of her friends decided to take the after school Hip Hop class in the new year. They meet once a week in the MPR to learn some dance moves. Then they put on a performance for the parents at the end.
They were all so excited and proud to perform. They all got a cool pair of sunglasses to wear and a hip hop T-shirt.
Gemma was in full force being extra silly of course. There were a few boys too . It was all kindergarten kids.
The ended the show with some cool kid poses. The "dab" of course which none of them has any idea what it means.... and neither do I.
With their teacher on the left. He was a really nice guy and has the patience of a saint.
The videos are maybe the best representation of the show!

An American in Paris

It was a big night out for this young lady! We went to see An American in Paris at the Pantages theater. She got to get all dressed up on a Friday night to go to Hollywood!
We went to dinner before the show. Due to some new metal in her mouth (she just got palate expanders placed that week) she had a hard time enjoying supper. It takes a little.. ok a lot..of getting used to.
Our lovely lady ready for the show.
Here's the part where I tell you how much she loved it and was awe struck and wanted to sing and dance along. It's just that it was kind of late and school was really long and so even though a big bag of M&M's had been eaten she still managed to fall asleep well before the intermission. Oh well, a matinee next time then.

Community Helper

The Kindergarten classes put on a Spring play every year for the school and parents to enjoy. When Lily was in Kindergarten it was toward the end of the year and it was the farm show. Now they switched it out to community helpers. It was so cute!!
Each class splits up into groups representing different members of the community. There are construction workers, firemen, crossing guards, and my personal favorites.... the mail carriers!!!
They sang really great songs about all the different jobs you can have to help people. I searched really hard for the Starbucks baristas because I think they are pretty darn helpful but they didn't make the cut. I think grocers made it though.
Each kid had a line they had to say and they all did so well. They didn't even seem nervous. They did motions and hand signs for all the songs too.
So proud of our little mail lady! Can we get a family discount?

St Patty's Day

Another St Patty's day another leprechaun trap! The assignment was to make a trap out of anything you had at home then bring it to school the day before St Patty's. Then they set them all up in class to see who would catch the little guy. Gemma's trap was an upside down shoe box. The footprints would lead him under the rainbow to a TRAP DOOR!!!Ha! Gotcha!
We got this thing in the bag this year. She covered the trap door in alluring shamrocks. He'll never figure that out.
Then the big day arrived. We had to get ready for school and wear green so nobody got pinched. Turns out we don't own a lot of green so we made do. Our own leprechaun snuck in and left a box of Lucky Charms cereal! Yum!
Sadly, nobody caught the little guy again this year. He is so sneaky and always gets away!!
That weekend was a lot of fun too. It was Troy's birthday party at Chuck E Cheese. Gemma wrote him a poem on the computer to go on his gift.
Gemma and Troy had a short little romance. There was about a week of school that he declared his love and she agreed to be his girl friend. He brought her a gift to school.
They had a great time at the party. I think Gemma ditched her friends for about 3 recesses for her boyfriend but got tired of playing Jurassic world so she's back with the girls again.

San Diego Zoo

Granny and Grampy had a lovely week vacation planned for San Diego so we decided to CRASH IT for a weekend! I'm sure they didn't really mind even if it meant taking two small girls in the pool every day in cold weather ;)
The big highlight of our weekend was a day at the zoo. The SanDiego zoo is famous and it did not disappoint. We would love to go again and again.
Luckily it was a bit cool and drizzly the day we went so it was pretty quiet and the animals were all out and about. You have to start with the flamingos and consult the map.
Then you just kind of follow the path until you see some cool animals. You can even ride some of the animals.
Or become an animal.
I can't even handle the wildness here.
This tiger was really active. It was feeding time and he knew it. He even gave us a real authentic roar! Lily the feline lover was head over heals with the "kitty".
Too bad he finished his beef in three seconds flat but then he had a good stretch and wander about.
The monkeys are always entertaining.
The zoo is known for their panda bear program. They breed them and then send the cubs back to China. They were just chilling in their cave eating some delicious bamboo.
We did a whole lot of walking and everywhere you looked there was something new to discover.
I'm not sure camel riding was allowed but that didn't stop us.

If there was an animal sculpture we climbed up.
Don't worry we went under water too and got chilly and wet. Nothing could stop these explorers.
After all that walking we decided to take the easy way back. On the gondola ride!
Don't look down. Ok yes look down you can see all the animals. We saw some silverback gorilla action from high above.
The ride didn't last long and we were back near the entrance.
It was a rough landing but don't worry we all survived.
What a wonderful day! We didn't see too much else in SD on our quick weekend trip. Guess we'll have to go again soon!!
