Pumpkin Patch Field Trip

The first  grade classes learn all about the life cycle of a pumpkin and then they get to go on a field trip to a pumpkin patch and learn about the farm. Somehow I've manage to have to work on the majority of field trip days but this year the teachers have given plenty of notice and boy do the girls want me to come along. As per history in LosAngeles it has to be in the 100 degree range in October for pumpkin patch season. Really it is pretty awful. Luckily the trip was early in the AM and short!
Gemma and some of her crew waiting in the shade having snack before we begin.  No joke it was 102 that day with hot wind blowing up the dust! The farmer talks a bit about the farm before leading the 75 kids and parents through the field.
Bestie's group, Liv, Abby, Gemma, Makayla and Emerson.
We walked through the tomato tunnel first with vines of delicious cherry tomatoes for the tasting.
Each student got to pick a tiny organic sugar pumpkin.
Here is Gemma's class with her teacher Mr. Taylor. She is loving 1st grade and really loves her teacher this year.
