Outdoor School

The much anticipated highlight of Sixth grade is getting to go to outdoor school with your friends for three night. I'm not sure if the giant sleepover is more exciting or getting to miss four days of instruction.

They go up to camp Ramah in Ojai. There are teachers that come for the day and a director from their school. There are naturalists that are paid to lead the hikes and activities. The camp counselors that get to sleep in the cabins with the kids are high schoolers. Lucky them.

Gemma was so so excited to be in a cabin with all her friends. Her BFF Liv was there of course, and Emily.
A highly discussed topic was the food. Since the location of outdoor school is held at a Jewish camp the kitchen is kosher. So all the food has to follow kosher guidelines. Not to mention it has to be nut free, and offer gluten free and vegan options. I think the ranch dressing was a highlight. That and the pasta night were the only hits.
Their regular school teachers come up for the day so they take photos and post them so parents back home can get a peak into what camp life is like.
It rained for part of the time so things were a little cold and soggy.
Consensus was she had a great time, there was very little sleep, a fair amount of drama and she is in no rush to repeat sleep away camp.

Now please enjoy some photos from Gemma's friend Emily on instagram......

Upon return to civilization the first thing they all want to do is eat "real food." Thanks to a gift card for my birthday I took Gem to Cheesecake factory for lunch.
